Alhaji Halidu Haruna remembers victims of Political violence in Ablekuma Central
The Former Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma Central in the 2016 elections, Alhaji Halidu Haruna on Tuesday called on all NDC members in the Constituency to dedicate the day to the remembrance of the victims of NPP brutalities in the 2020 elections.
December 7th, 2021, marks exactly a year whena total of eight people, including three minors, were killed in election violence, marring what was expected to be a free and fair exercise.
About 15 other electorate also sustained various degrees of injuries mostly from gunshots as the party in power was accused of using security men sway results in favour President Akufo-Addo.
Among those killed were Abass Ibrahim, who served as polling agent for the NDC in the Ablekuma Central Constuency.
Speaking to some party enthusiasts in Shukura, Mr Halidu Haruna lamented bitterly about the death of “comrade Ibrahim Abass”, who was the brother of the Constituency Deputy Women Organizer, Hajia Rahinatu Abass.
“It is absolutely unacceptable to lose a single life in the process of expressing one’s preference in political leadership,” he lamented.
“Even in a coup detat witnessed in Guinea recently, not a single person died and therefore, the death of 8 people in an election under a democracy is distasteful to the extreme and must be roundly condemned.
“Never again shall we in the NDC experience such a crime from state security agency in our bid to deepen democratic experimentation in Ghana. Enough of the violence,” he exclaimed.
The affable former Presidential Staffer therefore urged all members of the NDC to remain optimistic about the prospects of the party in the upcoming 2024 general elections. “With John Mahama as the NDC Candidate, the party is going to occupy the Flagstaff House come 7th December, 2025”. He said.
He finally joined the enthusiastic party members to say a prayer for all the fallen heroes in Ablekuma Central including the former Chairman, Hon Plassi who passed on to Glory after a short illness.
