As Ghanaian muslim community mourns death of of Hajia Ramatu

Hajia Ramatu, the second wife of His Eminence, the National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has passed away.

An announcement from the Chief Imam’s office stated that Hajia Ramatu, also known as “Amariya,” died on Wednesday morning at around 6:00 am at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the death of our mother, Hajia Ramatu, who passed away this morning…after receiving treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital,” the statement read. “May her soul rest in perfect peace.”

The JanaIza (burial) prayer for the late Hajia Ramatu will be held today, March 27th, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the residence of the National Chief Imam in Fadama, Accra. Burial will follow at the Awudome Cemetery.

Widely respected as the spiritual leader of Muslims in Ghana, Sheikh Sharubutu has held the National Chief Imam position since 1993. He married Hajia Ramatu as his second wife.

The Chief Imam’s office has conveyed condolences, stating, “May Almighty Allah have mercy on her soul, and on all departed souls.”

Further details surrounding Hajia Ramatu’s funeral arrangements are expected to be released in the coming days as the Muslim community mourns her loss.
