New Town win African Games Zongo Football Competition with 4-0 trouncing of Nima
Accra New Town emerged the ultimate winners of the African Games Zongo Football Competition after trouncing Nima 4-0 in the final at the Madina AstroTurf on Sunday.
Former King Faisal player Bernard Cofie struck thrice f before Mubarak Yahaya completed the operation on the day for their New Town side.
Mubarak swept home a screamer from 30 yards to stun the Nima defence men who were caught unaware.
Skipper Bernard Cofie profited from a defensive error as he powered a half volley past the stranded Nima goalkeeper.
Cofie registered the third goal for Nima when he dived to connect the ball home for the third goal.
It was Cofie once again who put the ball behind the net to register his hat-trick and emerge the top scorer of the competition.
New Town thus take home the ultimate cash prize of GHS10,000.
The competition was organised to herald the start of a series of frontrunner events by the LOC to improve sensitisation ahead of the August 2023 Games.
Eight (8) Muslim communities featuring Maamobi, Sukura, Madina, New Town, Cow Lane, Fadama, Nima, and Tudu will compete for the ultimate.
