The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, Zak Rahman, joined thousands of his Muslim constituents at the Nima Highway to observe the Eid ul Fitr prayers on Thursday, promising to “work tirelessly” to bring much-needed development and resources to the constituency.
As Muslims around the world marked the Eid al-Fitr holiday, signifying the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Rahman emphasised the spiritual significance of the occasion.
Speaking to a gathered crowd at the Nima Highway on Thursday, April 11th, Rahman urged the constituency to support his efforts to win the seat in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
“It is with great joy and humility that I stand before you today to celebrate the blessed occasion of Eid al-Fitr. This is a time of reflection, gratitude, and renewal—a time to come together as a community and reaffirm our commitment to the principles of our faith,” he said.
“As a son of this community, born and raised in the heart of Nima, I understand the unique challenges we face. But I believe that the time has come for us to come together and break that cycle. And I am ready to be your champion in the halls of parliament.”
Rahman acknowledged Ayawaso East’s history as an opposition stronghold, but positioned himself as a champion ready to deliver much-needed development.
He touted the performance of the NPP in the past seven years that it has ruled the country, saying the party has “worked tirelessly to fulfil our mandate.”
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has had the honour of serving our beloved Ghana,” he said.
“During this time, we have worked tirelessly to fulfil our mandate and improve the lives of all Ghanaians, regardless of their political affiliation or religious beliefs.
“With the support of the NPP government and the trust of the people of Ayawaso East, I will also work tirelessly to bring much-needed development and resources to our constituency,” he said.
“We will invest in quality education, modern healthcare facilities, and job-creating industries that empower our youth. Together, we will build a brighter future for all.”
However, securing the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat will be a tough task for the NPP, as the constituency has been held by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) since Ghana’s return to multi-party democracy in 1993.
